With the end of British rule of Hong Kong on July 1, 1997 also came the first meeting between the current Mr. Brown on the Internet and the original Mr. Brown, Quentin Tarantino, on the set of the latter's latest, Jackie Brown, set for release this Christmas.
Quentin and I had a rather knotty "history"--that is, if you could call it a "history." In the two-and-a-half years since the release of Pulp Fiction, I have become acquainted with a number of people associated with him, and somewhere along the way Quentin began to know of me. On November 1, 1995 was our first contact, when Quentin and I had a brief conversation over the phone. An unexpected base-touch came last August, when he actually sent me a consolation letter after my UCLA film school rejection. However, we had never met in person, and whenever I did see him in person, I was unable to reach him. That is, until July 1.
